Bill Friedman

Founding Principal

William (Bill) Friedman is an accomplished law professional with over 40 years’ experience. After receiving his Bachelor of Civil Law in 1974 and his Bachelor of Law in 1975 from McGill University, Bill went on to be admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1975 and the Ontario Bar in 1978. Prior to founding Friedmans, Bill was a partner at two prominent Bay Street firms. He specializes in Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Restructuring, Corporate Finance, Commercial Law, Complex Real Estate and Litigation.

Bill has advised on numerous complex transactions including: the purchase and sale of Toronto's SkyDome; the Interim Financing of Terminal 3 Lester Pearon Toronto International Airport; a Ground Lease and Sale by the City of North York of Air Rights and stratified title to the North York City Centre; and a lease of Canada's Wonderland.

In addition, Bill has advised on numerous commercial and residential real property acquisitions and dispositions, corporate and commercial transactions, construction financings over the last 20 years, and high-rise condominium documentation and agreements for developers and purchasers.

He has appeared before the LPAT (formerly the Ontario Municipal Board) on zoning matters, at Ontario Superior Court and Court of Appeal on certain commercial litigation matters, and before the Law Society Tribunal representing lawyers on both hearings and appeals.

Bill is nationally recognized in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers as AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated, the highest possible rating in legal ability and ethical standards and has been recognized by the Global Who's Who as a Bio of the Month, which features those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and achievement in their profession, for outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of law.
